Erks travelled to Brentwood looking for revenge as the last time these two teams met Fire came out on top, scoring 50 second half points to stun the Erks.
Despite two good performances against Brightlingsea and Colchester the previous week, the Erks started slowly with centre Dave Churches managing to keep the game close with 10 first quarter points.
Better shot selection and superb defence saw the Erks lead 25-35 at half time. Martin Overare contributed 9 second quarter points with his usual array of baseline moves.
The much awaited Fire surge came at the start of second half as they drew level after four minutes however the Erks rallied, contained the run and then regain their 10 point lead through good work from Jon Bose and Ed Bailey. The fun guy playing the game at late notice after the withdrawal of Jonny Lee who was suffering a career threatening dose of the runs!
A computerised scoreboard meant Ed was unable to play in his usual position of 'bench visual scorer" so he took his frustration out on setting whiplash inducing screens on Fire's 14 year old point guard.
Mild mannered Lee Atkinson also got physical with his opponent; shoulder barging, staring contests and handbags at dawn were as far as the altercation got - much to the disappointment of the Erks bench.
Guards Dela and Steve Herd controlled the game down the stretch and the Erks eased home for a 12 point win to set up a semi-final match up with Colchester Tigers.
Erks scorers: Churches 21, Martin Overare 19, Ed 8, Herd 8, JP 4, Jon Bose 4, Mark Denchfield - Fowler 4, Lee 2, Gareth, Dela
